Third-Party Services
Locals relies on services run by other companies. This page names each one, when Locals uses it, what it receives from the app or the website, and what it provides. It adds detail to the Privacy Policy, which remains the full statement of how your information is handled.
Google Maps. Locals includes Google Maps features and content. Your use of
Google Maps features and content is subject to the then-current versions of the
Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service
and the Google Privacy Policy.
Sign-in
Sign in with Apple — Apple
- When: only if you choose to sign in with Apple.
- Receives: a sign-in request from the app.
- Provides: an Apple account identifier, and the name and email address you agree to share. If you hide your email, Apple provides a relay address that forwards to you.
- Manage it: in your Apple Account settings, under Sign in with Apple.
- Apple Privacy Policy
Google Sign-In — Google
- When: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Receives: a sign-in request from the app.
- Provides: your Google account identifier, name, email address and profile photo. Locals asks only for this basic profile. It does not request access to Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, or any other Google data, and it does not read or send anything on your behalf.
- Manage it: remove Locals from the third-party connections in your Google Account.
- Google Privacy Policy
Firebase — Google
Firebase Authentication
- When: every sign-in, whichever method you use, and when Locals sends you an account email.
- Receives: the Apple or Google sign-in result, or your email address and password if you sign in with email. Firebase stores the password; Locals never sees it. It also receives your email address, to send account emails.
- Provides: an account identifier and the tokens that keep you signed in. It also sends the account emails — the link to verify your email address, the link to reset your password, and the notice to your old address when your email address changes — from noreply@localsapp.app.
Google Analytics for Firebase
- When: while you use the app.
- Receives: events about what you do in the app, naming content by identifier; your public identifier; the date your account was created; whether you allowed location access; an app-installation identifier; device model, iOS version, app version, and language and region settings; and your IP address with each request.
- Never receives: your location or the map area, anything you typed, your email, name or photo, or an advertising identifier. Locals uses the version of Google Analytics that does not collect one.
- Provides: usage reports that tell us how Locals is used.
Firebase Crashlytics
- When: when the app crashes or records an error.
- Receives: a crash or error report — the state of the app and device, a stack trace, short technical messages — with your internal account identifier and an app-installation identifier.
- Provides: crash reports that help us fix problems.
Privacy and security in Firebase
Places and maps
Google Places — Google Maps Platform
- When: when you search for a place, or the app shows a place's photos.
- Receives: for a search, the text you searched for and the centre and size of the map area you searched in. The search is sent by our servers, not by your device. For a photo, your device requests it from Google directly, so Google receives the photo request and your device's IP address.
- Provides: places — their identifiers, names, addresses, categories and coordinates — and place photos with the names of the people who took them.
- Use of this content is subject to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Mapbox
- When: whenever the app shows a map.
- Receives: requests for the parts of the map on your screen, with your device's IP address and basic device and app information. Your own position on the map is worked out on your device. Mapbox's usage and location telemetry is turned off in Locals; it is collected only if you turn it on from the information button on the map.
- Provides: the map, drawn from Mapbox and OpenStreetMap data.
- Mapbox Privacy Policy
Zoho Mail — Zoho Corporation
- When: when you write to support@localsapp.app, privacy@localsapp.app or legal@localsapp.app, or reply to an email from Locals.
- Receives: your email address, the name your mail client sends, your message and any attachments.
- Provides: the mailbox from which we read and answer your message. It is hosted in Zoho's EU data centre.
- Zoho Privacy Policy
Website
Cloudflare
- When: when you open the Locals website at localsapp.app, or a link to a Collection at go.localsapp.app.
- Receives: every request your browser makes to the website, including your IP address, the address of the page, the time, and the browser information your browser sends.
- Provides: hosting for the website. It serves the website's pages and keeps records of the requests made to them, which we use only to keep the website secure and working. The website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and stores nothing in your browser.

Our own servers
Your account, profile, content, reports and blocks are stored on servers that we run through hosting and database providers. They receive what the app sends to provide Locals, as described in the Privacy Policy, and process it only on our instructions.
